HOW DOES EAR WAX OCCUR?

Earwax, also called cerumen, is made by the body to protect the ears. The ear wax has both lubricating and antibacterial properties. Most of the time, the old earwax is moved by the natural movement of the jaw, such as chewing and talking, which helps move earwax out of the canal, taking trapped debris with it.

Earwax, also called cerumen, is made by the body to protect the ears. The ear wax has both lubricating and antibacterial properties. Most of the time, the old earwax is moved through the ear canal by jaw motions like chewing while the skin in your ear grows from the inside out. When it reaches the outside of the ear, it is usually washed away or falls out naturally.

If you develop a build up of wax, common symptoms are dizziness, hearing loss, tinnitus and a full/blocked sensation.

EARWAX REMOVAL

It’s quite common for ear wax to build up and it’s different for everyone, but it’s important to monitor your ear wax as it can potentially cause hearing loss if you are not careful.

*Our wax removal service is £50 for one ear and £80 for two.

If you attend the practice and there is no wax present, you will be charged a £50 consultation fee.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EARWAX REMOVAL

The most gentle and effective method of wax removal, that is endorsed by ENT consultants is microsuction. Microsuction is quick and painless and performed with a small suction tube. During the process we monitor your ear with surgical loupes that magnify the ear canal allowing a thorough view of the procedure.

Microsuction is a safe and effective procedure for hearing aid users, perforated eardrums and for those who find irrigation/syringing unsuitable or uncomfortable

Another treatment, that is suitable for some people is irrigation or ear syringing and we will use the most appropriate method for your ears.
